Hello and welcome to the David Redmond Photo - blog and website combined of David Redmond, Manchester born and raised still life photographer. I began my career on the other side of the camera, working as a model for photography students at university whilst studying for a BA in Art History. After graduation I realised that I wanted to do what they were doing.
I've always been particularly fascinated by images of still life and so began taking photos with a view to developing the same eye and sense of composition that my heroes I studied at university had.For me, the process starts from seeing something in nature and taking inspiration from it. Then comes the intense attention and concentration to catch the object in the right spot at the right time. Finally it's about pressing the shutter and anticipating the final effect. Perhaps one day, the name David Redmond will appear in Art History text books.
Still life photography is the depiction of inanimate subjects or a group of objects which are either natural or man-made, via the means of a photograph.
It is a highly appreciated art form, wherein each photographer has a certain style. The idea is to convey a 'story' with the means of a photograph. Still life photographers always experiment with different compositions and the play of light and shadow over the objects of their composition.
I chose still life (or maybe it chose me) simply because I wanted to capture a moment that is pure perfection, not disturbed by any movement, something of never passing beauty.
